端午节: 包粽子
Saturday, June 12, 2010 @ 1:08 AM
::11th June 10::
As the Dragon Boat Festival (端午节) is around the corner, I specially requested off from GV work on Friday! Not that I really celebrate this festival... my mission is just to go over to my grandma's house, learn how to pack and wrap the rice dumplings with bamboo leaves :D Such traditional way of making ♥ Results: better taste? xD
And so, let's begin! :D
Just showing you step by step procedures here. Probably it looks like some pretty half-assed procedures; but I've tried!! (._.)

To make these 粽子s! :D

Ingredients :D
Meat, chestnuts, mushrooms, glutinous rice!
(were prepared beforehand by my grandma and aunt)

Well, for mine. I added boiled egg whites in too :D
(I don't like the boiled egg yolks... so I left them out :X)

errr... Step 1: Overlap the leaves and cup the ends as shown :)

Step 2: Fill in some glutinous rice :3

Step 3: Add in some mushrooms and a chestnut...
Well, if that is you like your chestnuts. I replaced the chestnut with boiled egg whites.
To put it simple, add in anything you like lah! Be it your favourite rasins or earthworms :X

Step 4: Not forgetting the meat, of course... D:

Step 5: Cover it up with more glutinous rice! (^_^)b

Step 6: Fold the leaves up... tight!
Into a shape of a pyramid. (YGO!?)

Step 7: Secure it firmly with a twine/raffia string :)

& you're done with one! :D

Now go ahead and make more...

AND MOAR! :D

Heh, my mama posing with the rice dumplings :)
Thanks to my aunt for making the dumpling so that I can take pictures of it :D Anyway, I'm not very good at making them T.T My step 6 and 7 fail big time. I can't seem to hold it tight enough... The ingredients inside kept spilling out (@.@) And I can't remember how to tie it up properly as well. So anyway after making a few, I retired from the job. I think "resigned" should be the correct word used :X
So I went to dig out all those old photo albums to look at them :P I don't have such albums at home... or maybe they were all hidden somewhere deep deep (O.O) Here are some of the photos of me when I was much younger? :)
So...when I was a young girl, my father took me into the city to see a marching band...

On the bed bunk of Star Aquarius :)

Swimming pool of Star Aquarius!~

Chinese New Year at my grandma's house :)

♥ with mama

Silly! :P

On board, Super Star Virgo!

Cafe(?) in Super Star Virgo.

At one of my relative's wedding.

Heh, I took a short nap afterward. And when I woke up, the rice dumplings were cooked and ready to be eaten :D Damn... I felt like a sleeping flowerpot :X

Perfect! ♥

Perfect! ♥
After my mama took rice dumplings for my paternal grandparents and relatives, we left the place and head towards Queenstown area where my paternal grandparents and Jeremy's family (cousins) were residing at :) XueNi was lucky to be staying the level above Jeremy's so she too got a share of the homemade rice dumplings :D

This is her thank you note/picture :3

Orchard Xmas Trees Viewing
Thursday, January 14, 2010 @ 4:42 PM
::18th Dec 09::
yes yes, another 18th dec post. a continuation from the previous post.
haven't been blogging lately due to my gaming desire suddenly awaken again :\
playing EssenceRO, midrate private server.
& warning; picture spam ahead :)
And so, after my ARMS excursion, I went to meet up with ShunAn, Edmund and Rebecca; 6pm @ Plaza Singapura. I waited for 30-45mins for them and found out that Rebecca wasn't coming along for the xmas trees viewing session :( Because she was exhausted from the lack of sleep, due to xmas gifts crafting. We went one week earlier because we didn't want to squeeze with all the people who will be going on the week of Christmas Dx

Bored from waiting!! D:
Anyway, we began our journey from Plaza Singapura to Paragon, looped around Wheelock Place and continued onto Takashimaya and then straight back to Plaza Singapura. No, we didn't walk to those ulu-ulu places like Far East Plaza. I'm pretty disappointed that some places do not have xmas trees at all! Places like the Cathay and Plaza Singapura. Looks like the xmas trees trend is dying off :(
Less words, more pictures!

Colourful lights from the Cathay building :)

Apparently the streets of Orchard were divided by colours!
Here is the red section, with Santa and stars :)

There's red ornamental trees as well.

Gingerbread man that reminds me of Shrek xD

& the xmas trees we saw so far! :D

4 of these rotating santas were located at the junction.

Yellow section now!
With reindeer and xmas tree.

Yellow ornamental tree.

Lots of these xmas carol performances going on
along the streets of Orchard.

Pretty decoration of Tangs :D

ShunAn and I bought the $5 clip-on santa hat :P

Heh, Wheelock Place itself looks like a giant glass xmas tree.
That's why its picture is here :X

Blue section; snowman and snowflake :D

Not forgetting the blue ornamental trees.

Snowmen playing instruments;
Merry-go-round

The entrance of Orchard xD

Moving onto Ion :D

I think Ion xmas tree was the biggest of them all!
Inside is hollow and you can walk in :D

& this is what you would see :)
Pretty sparkling lights!
But staying in there long, will have nauseating effects D:

Reflection off one of Ion xmas tree's big ornamental balls.

Wisma's one

Cone tree and ferrero rocher trees were outside Takashimaya xD

Close up.

Frosty the blown-up snowman~

Last few remaining trees :P
The big xmas tree of Centrepoint could be only taken opposite.
It was pretty fun and exciting to source out all Orchard shopping centres' xmas tree! I have to say thank you to ShunAn and Edmund for accompanying me on this mission. As for my favourite tree? It would be the butterflies tree of Paragon :) Super pretty tree!! :D Hope I get to take another set of photos of this coming 2010 xmas trees~
