Fragments of April

Final post of April! Woots! xD
Not much mini posts this time round...
Just some stuffs here and there.
Some birthday posts and of course,
the collection of my Pokémon Ginjinka costume! :D

Some of the days I spent cracking my head over Rommel's NDS problem. NDS first, due to the SD card problem. After I have solved that, he went to trade in his NDS + cash for a NDSi... Then I've got another problem to solve... I have completely no idea how to solve it! I don't even have a NDSi for goodness sake D: I tried my best but I didn't succeed at all. But NDSi is pretty cool with camera and sound function. However since it gave me lots of problems on the game side, I rather not have one at all :\ Anyway, he still traded his NDSi for a PSP in the end.....
Huge waste of my time T.T

For birthdays, my family celebrated my mama's birthday on the 21st April;
and my youngest brother, Damien's birthday on the 30th April.

::23rd Apr 10::
It's finally time to head down to tailor Michelle's house to collect/check our Pokémon Ginjinka costumes!~ After three months of waiting! :D We were supposed to reach Boonlay at 7pm and then have a quick dinner and reached tailor Michelle's house at 8pm. But due to some delay, ShunAn and Angie was really late. By the time we reached tailor Michelle's house, it was already 9pm :\ She was rather pissed and we were really sorry T.T

We tried on our costumes and if it's okay, we were able to bring it home. However, mine still need further alteration on the skirt (too loose!) and the hood (too big!). So in the end, only TingYu brought home hers and Angie helped Wendy take hers. The rest of us have to come down the following week to collect the costumes.

Sneak preview :X
Oops~ Mosaic-ed :P

Photobucket
Johnatton gave me this cute organizer when I returned back his HDD on the same day.
So cute!! 我不设得用!!! T.T

Fast forward~~~~
::30th Apr 10::
Met up again with the Pokémon Ginjinka cosmates. TingYu came along to accompany us even though she took her costume already :) We were still a little late but not as late as the previous one :( I tried on my altered costume and it was so much better! Yay! ^^ I'm supposed to pay her $45 more (my deposit was $50) but I didn't have change for her :( I not sure how it goes - this money transaction, but I only pay $92 in total for my costume; and it supposed to be $95! Anyway, thank you!~ She even gave me some red cloth for my ribbon hairband so I don't have to go all the way down to Arab Street to get it!!! :P

I am almost done for this cosplay for Cosfest!!!!~
Checklist
Costume: collected!
Wig: collected! but need to be cut and style :(
Shoes: still need to be dyed :(
Ribbon hairband: still need to be made :(
Props: Caterpie plushie and Pokéball done!

~**~

Coming to the end of this post~ Told you it would be short :P
Lastly would be......
my GV GRAND picture collage!!! :D

Photobucket
Sweet, eh?
(because Franzbeth and Rommel are soon going back to Philippines; that's why there's lots of pictures taken as memories!)

And that's the end of April mini posts...

::Lyrids Adventure Camp @ Ubin::

Tuesday, April 27, 2010 @ 3:38 PM

::24th - 25th Apr 10::

Ahhh~ Fuck. I still got so many pending posts to blog!! :\
This one here will be an extremely long post.
Happy reading or seeing pictures...

And the day came for the much awaited camp of the year, "Lyrids Adventure Camp". Proudly organized by Moo from Cosca. A simple two days 1 night camp filled with lots of activities; cycling expedition, quarry dipping, night-walking/cycling, trekking + forest-bashing, camping, stargazing with meteors!!! (some activities were canceled due to unseen circumstances)

The eight adventurers: Audrey, Edmund, Puikwan, Joshua, Moo, ShunAn, XueNi and me! ^^

We gathered at Tampines first for lunch and for last minute stock-up on items like Calbee potato chips :D Seaweed flavour for me!~ My favourite :3 We took bus29 to Changi Village to get to Changi Point Ferry Terminal to take a bumboat to Pulau Ubin. Long long journey~

Photobucket
XueNi, Edmund and I met up first and headed to Tampines together~

Photobucket
After lunching McDonald's on the roof top terrace area :3
Puikwan is not here yet; so we purposely took a picture without her~~ :X

Four pairs of two!
The eight adventurers of Camp Lyrids.

Annnddddddddd... we reached the Changi Point Ferry Terminal! Luckily we didn't have to wait for long to board the bumboat :) My previous trip to Pulau Ubin; I had to wait for a really long time and in the end, I also have to pay extra because there wasn't enough people :\ LAME! Anyway, I didn't get much seasickness on the way there due to distraction of taking pictures and the lovely rainbow at the horizon. And also, the waves weren't very choppy :D

Photobucket
Onwards to Pulau Ubin!!

Lovely group picture on the bumboat.
I ♥ it when there's a lot of friends going out together on activities like this :)

Photobucket
The rainbow~
Welcome to Pulau Ubin!! Hello again~

After the short boat ride, we have reached the little island of Pulau Ubin :) I kinda rested for awhile towards the end of the ride... looks like the seasickness did hit me after all :( I've gotten wobbly legs after getting onto proper land. We went straight to the Information Kiosk to get maps and planned our route from there. After that, we rented bicycles because the walking distance is terrible! Rented six bicycles and a couple bicycle. XueNi's cycling wasn't very stable so Edmund had to partner with her for this whole trip :P &, the bicycles were an overnight rental and it's only $8 each! :)

Photobucket
Reached :P

Photobucket
Let the Ubin adventure begins!

Photobucket
Route set and bicycles rented! :D

Our first stop is the Secret Garden of Ubin. Only riding for five minutes and the skies became unseemly dark D: We quickly stopped and begun wrapping our bags in plastic bags xD! And also, the mosquitoes came... we immediately applied three layers of different insect repellents and I didn't think it work very well :( The mozzies there were definitely too powerful. And I felt pretty uncomfortable with the mixture of insect repellents on my skin Dx

Photobucket

Photobucket

A few more steps of the pedals and we have reached the Secret Garden. We took a group picture first before we started exploring the place. However, it started to drizzle after we took the group picture and there was a sudden appearance of mozzies T.T We decided to head back to the town area first, just in case it started to rain heavily :(

Photobucket

And glad we did! The drizzle evolved to a "full fledged" rain D: We decided to take an early dinner and at the same time wait for the rain to stop pouring!! Zi char (home-cooked fare) @ Pulau Ubin Seafood! I ♥ zi char~ :3 Moreover it's like approximately $40 for the drinks and food!

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
The delicious food~
Sambal kangkong, sweet & sour chicken and hot-plate tofu!~ ♥♥♥

After the wonderful meal, it stopped raining! :D We stopped for a toilet break before cycling back to the Secret Garden for further exploration. Lesser mozzies this time round; probably still hiding from the rain. Good for us! :D Although I have came here before, I still love taking pictures of flowers!! xD

Photobucket
Taking pictures in the toilet!
That's what girls do best :P

Photobucket
Pink torch ginger flower, white jasmine flowers and elephant's foot.

Photobucket
Trying to act blind... FAIL! xD

After that, we had to get to our campsite fast! All the way at Ketam Quarry. (tell you people also don't know where is it right? go find out yourselves! :X) One of the highlights of this trip was we spotted two hornbills!! :D Such pretty birds, although they made such loud honking sounds xD!

Photobucket
Hornbills!!~ ♥

Photobucket
We are on the road again~

Photobucket
Cycling on the road again~

One last toilet break stop before continuing to Ketam Quarry. There's no toilet at Ketam Quarry at all; thus making this toilet the nearest one. And it's still quite far from Ketam Quarry T.T!!! All of us changed into our long pants because of the cold cold cold night ahead and also the mozzies biting occurrences. Hee~ The toilet lights were turn on by pressing the sensor button outside so if we stayed too long in there, the lights will turn off and we will be plunged into total darkness :\ Annoying.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Lovely pink skies could be seen beyond the toilets.
Dusk is approaching!!!~~

Photobucket
Hurt my thumb... but I can't remember how :\

Photobucket
Done!
(as you can see... it's quite dark already in such a short period of time :\)

And I have no idea why the sun sets down so quickly here in Pulau Ubin. It's like one moment it's still bright and the next it's really dark and creepy already T.T! Worst thing is there's not lamp posts at all! :\ And we only have two torchlights + a headlight. Bicycles with no back lights and the road is getting bumpier and rather scary to cycle on :(

Photobucket
Darker and darker...

Photobucket
and then, pitch black! :\
Those white spots are actually my camera flash light reflected
off the wings of those pesky flying insects... Dx Many!!!!

Finally! We have reached our campsite; right in front of Ketam Quarry! First thing to do was to lay the groundsheets and set up the tents! We had to search for dry land because the ground there was really wet due to the previous rainfalls in the day. It was really hard to pitch a tent in the dark where there's only three light sources; not mentioning we have to pitch two tents up... The place was swarmed with flies and mozzies! Moo lighted mosquito coils and placed them around the campsite to ward those pesky bugs away! :@

Photobucket
Nice shot right? Glowing "Danger" word~
Not photoshopped at all!!

Photobucket
Busy people setting up the tents!
(sad to say, I didn't help at all... I was busy taking pictures!)

Photobucket

Photobucket
After the big tent was up, time to pitch up the small tent.

Photobucket
And it's done! :P
Great job to all!! :D

The task was done and it's time to relax on the groundsheets :) Moo warned us that the ground here was littered with lots of small sharp rocks/stones. I didn't actually think it was that bad... but it was! :( Really painful to sit and lie down on them... uncomfortable. But, but, but... the sky view was awesome~ d^_^b! Really nice view of the entire sky with no trees blocking at all! :D

We broke lightsticks next so that we would be more comfortable in the dark. You know, with more lights around... better to identify people and such... and more fun... Camping is really all about this xD The lightsticks were generously sponsored by Moo~

Photobucket
So very very very pretty!! :D

Anyway, the next activity was the Night Walk. Moo has placed something on the bridge that we have crossed so much earlier. Our task is to go there, get it and come back. That simple. But on one condition... only one torchlight is allowed on this dark, creepy, eerie, absolutely scary night walk D: (lol, just kidding. was only exaggerating.) Oh ya, the marker is a red lightstick.

Photobucket
All looking at the map.
X marks the spot! Our night walk destination~

Photobucket
So funny that XueNi thought this millipede in defense form was a button xD
She screamed when she found out it was a millipede.
And I caught it :)

When the clock strikes watches tick 9pm, seven of us set off into the darkness. Moo stayed behind to watch the stuffs and tents. No one wanted to walk in front... so I did :) with XueNi clinging onto my arm xD We gave ourselves numbers; starting from the oldest to the youngest. I'm the 3rd oldest so I'm three. From time to time, we would do a number call so that no one would be missing~

The trail was really creepy. Surrounded by big dark trees that cast their huge shadows everywhere. They even blocked out the moon! One of the scariest part was when we walked past a sign saying, "German Girl Shrine". And I started saying ghost stuff like what happen the girl suddenly appears in the middle of our path. They all called me to shuddup or they will ripped out my mouth D: Such violent people. Kidding :X They didn't say that at all.

When we were approaching the bridge, we accelerated towards the red light in the distance. It was a plastic bag with some papers and a red lightstick. The marker! :D The papers were star charts of the night, tonight! Awesome :) Summer stars~

Photobucket
Red light glowing in the dark~
Found it!

Photobucket
Star charts!! :)

We hurried back to our campsite and relaxed on the groundsheets again. The whole night walk took approximately thirty minutes of our lives. It was pretty cool and such an adrenaline rush~ Anyway, we had so much time to waste! The Lyrids meteor shower doesn't start until much much later like 2-3am(?) or so... Yep, our camp date was properly planned by Moo so that it would coincide with the Lyrids meteor shower. That's why the camp name is "Lyrids Adventure Camp"!

Lalala~ Played Uno to pass the time. Believe me, it's really hard to play Uno in the dark. We have one main headlight and two torchlight to help but it's still hard to play!! Colours got mixed up. Numbers too. Audrey was wearing the main headlight that helps to light the middle of the game.

Photobucket
Audrey providing light to the game~

Soon we started implementing rules like the winner have to wear the headlight, which is called the "Light of Glory". Sounds grand, eh? But nooo, once you wear it, you can't move your head for the whole game. Because once you moved, the game will be plunged into darkness and everyone will start "Oi"-ing you :\ Annoying right? That's why for the first time in Uno history, no one aims to win the game! And also for the chain losers will be given the title of "Ultimate Loser". There should be forfeits for the Ultimate Loser, but since we were kind souls so we strike it out.

Photobucket
The winners wearing the "Light of Glory".

At 11.30pm, we stopped our Uno game and went to play with sparklers!! Generously sponsored by Moo once again. It's like the best thing to play in the dark! :) And also to reminisce our childhood... such nostalgic feelings~ I'm so glad that these sparklers weren't the type that produces lots of smelly smoke :P

Photobucket
A change of lightsticks first as the previous ones were getting duller.
Range of Calbee potato chips for supper later :P

Photobucket
So... LET'S SPARKLING THE WORLD!~
(nonsensical sentence on the box xD)

Photobucket
Uno! Dos! Tres!
(one! two! three! in spanish)

Photobucket
Accidental heart caught on camera~
Failed smiley face :(

Photobucket
I finally discovered that my camera has the twilight function.
Fuck, like after two years?! Amazing...
Well, better late than never :\

When we kinda ran out of sparkles to play :( It's time for GROUP PICTURES in the DARK!

Photobucket
Yay! Nice~ Let's take another;
because Moo was partially blocked by Edmund Dx

Photobucket
Uh oh, not all is ready for this shot xD

Photobucket
Perfect!! :3

It was reaching 1am. And it was mentioned by Moo that the Lyrids meteor shower starts around that timing. So we all laid down quietly and looked at the magnificent view ahead. So so pretty!~ I was kinda afraid that there might be clouds blocking the view of the stars. But it wasn't as bad as I thought xD

The summer stars looked so foreign to me. I couldn't identify any of the constellations. Moo took out his laser pointer and taught us how to identify the constellations like Scorpio, Sagittarius and more. Scorpio is like one of the nicest constellations I have seen! I really like its tail :P Sagittarius looks like a teapot though... oh well :P Oh wait, we also learnt how to identify the summer triangle. As Lyra is part of the summer triangle; and it's the most important constellation of the night because it's where the meteors will be shooting out from!!~ Lyra, Lyrids. Duh.

Anyway, we talked, chatted, joked (lol, Asuna~), while our eyes were fixed onto the skies. Didn't want to miss any meteors shooting by. But I DIDN'T MANAGE TO SEE ANY!!! T.T~ Pretty disappointing. After an hour of looking aimlessly at the skies/stars, some of us had to go to the toilet urgently!! xD Threw our valuables inside the big tent and locked it up. We assumed that no one would be around at this point of time. So all of us got our bicycles (by hanging lightsticks at the back; using them as a backlight) and three main sources of light ready...... & OFF WE GO!

The main sources of light were placed in the front, middle and back. So that most of us were be able to see the path. Such dark undulating path with lots of water puddles. Avoiding them wasn't such a walk in the park. Anyway, with determination and courage, we all managed to reach the toilets :)

Photobucket
Look at all the sleepy faces xD

And then, we have to cycle back to the campsite again. Oh, the agony... Halfway through, we got off our bicycles and pushed them for the remaining part of the journey. Because it was too dark and there were lots of upslopes. I do not have enough strength and willpower to cycle up slopes at all :( Weak...

Continued our stargazing, the moment we got back. I must at least see a meteor before I fall asleep! At approximately 3am, Audrey, Puikwan, XueNi, Edmund and ShunAn gave up and went to the tents to sleep. The girls in the bigger tent and the guys in the smaller tent. Only left with Joshua, Moo and me outside; continuing to stargaze.

And then, Moo found out that he mistook other stars as the summer triangle! We have been looking at the wrong stars all along! T.T So this time, looking at the right set of stars... I continued staring at them. Finally... at approximately 4am, I saw my first meteor!! :D It was yellow and has a really long tail!! So awesome!!~ :D! With me shouting and stuff, I guessed I kinda woke up the rest in the tents... Sorry!

Ah!~ It's okay to sleep now since I saw one! :D So that's what I did. Apparently, they have difficulties waking me up in the morning D: While everyone woke up at 7am... I woke up at around 8am... As I looked up to the skies, it was beautiful~ With swallows flying all over the skies. Ahhh~~ So prettyy!! :D:D It was like paradise! I took a walk around the campsite to see all the pretty little things like scenery and plants. Because last night, I didn't get a chance to see it... as it was dark...

Photobucket
Ketam Quarry!

Photobucket
There's lots of pink and yellow mimosa plants growing around~

Photobucket
Our camp area!
And the wet areas we tried to avoid last night xD

Everyone ate some biscuits for breakfast. I didn't really eat much at all... not a morning bird! But a night owl OvO! :D After that, we have to pack up everything and set out for the next part for our adventure. But right after we cleared finish the groundsheets and some of us including me changed into our shorts, it rained! Everyone dumped everything into the tents and escaped into them as well.

Photobucket
Six of us in the bigger tent; ShunAn and Edmund were in the smaller one.

We were lucky that it was only a passing downpour :) We didn't have to stay in the tents for long~ Next was to pack up the wet tents and everything else was dumped into our bags. And we were ready to leave Ketam Quarry :)

Photobucket
A rainbow after the rain :D
It's pretty faint but it's right there arching over the trees.

Photobucket
A change of plaster!

Lastly, I set up my camera on the bicycle and group pictures time with the beautiful quarry behind us! :D

Photobucket
Shot #1

Photobucket
Shot #2
Huge actions, everyone!!
(with my trademark pose xD)

Photobucket
Shot #3
All together now! Cheese!!~

Next stop: Kekek Quarry. Activity: Quarry Dipping. We had to cycle further up to reach there. Through the forest paths, we went. On the rocky uneven paths, we cycled. More mozzie bites, we received :( And when we reached there, the place was all fenced up... activity was canceled.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket
Another pretty quarry! The water is so clear :)
This shot kinda reminds me of 'Alice in the Wonderland' :P

We had no choice but to turn back. Now we have to cycle back to the town area to return our bicycles. The dateline is at 12noon. Tick-tock... but we still had lots of time :P We took our time to cycle back and even stopped by for drinks at a roadside store.

Photobucket
Water!!~

Sat down and chatted for awhile. Found out that another activity, which is the forest bashing, had to be canceled as well! Because Edmund was stubborn and didn't bring shoes along :( We left the place after realizing that there's lots of mozzie there as well :\

After another twenty minutes or so, we reached the town area and returned our bicycles; a whole hour earlier!! We had our rather early lunch at Cheong Lian Yuen. It's zi char again! :P And of the same price as well - $40+/- But we had to wait for sometime before the food arrived. And the trees with their branches spreading above us kept dropping tiny white flowers into our food!! So annoying! :\

Photobucket
Fu-yung egg, non-sambal kangkong and fried chicken~ ♥♥♥
It was delicious as well!

Just as we have finished our early lunch, IT BEGAN TO POUR AGAIN! D: Oh, the humanity! With our umbrellas, we walked over to the sheltered area beside the Information Kiosk. My shoes got pretty wet and I've got horrible soaking socks :(

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

& I'm glad it was yet another passing downpour! :) Next stop: Mamam Zoo. This time we have to go there by feet! No more luxury of pedaling down the neverending paths of Ubin. And also, we were now slower and the mozzies were able to bite us more :\ I think the mozzies by now were immune to our triple layered insect repellent :(

Photobucket
The every changing scenery of Ubin.

And we reached the Mamam beach which is also a campsite. The beach has lots of horribly big black insects flying about. I don't even know what are they! Beetles? Thank goodness they didn't bother to fly near to us. If not, we would be screaming and running all over the place xD

Photobucket

Photobucket

The Mamam Zoo is a very mini place... apparently they only have a boar and some rabbits :\ Looks like someone's own private property though. Anyway, they have some really nice lotus flowers there :)

Photobucket

Photobucket

It was indeed a short trip to the Mamam Zoo. We took a different route back to the jetty. It was time to head home~

Photobucket
On the road again~

Photobucket
Goodbye to Pulau Ubin once again!

Lots of people taking the bumboats back to the mainland this time. So many that we have to split up into 4:4 to take the bumboat. Audrey, Edmund, ShunAn, Puikwan : Joshua, Moo, XueNi, me. Audrey and group went off first; leaving the other 4 of us behind :( We thought we could take the next bumboat after theirs but no. Due to some stuffs (I have completely no idea), we have another bumboat instead :\ It was so annoying!! Anyway, we managed to board a bumboat and head back to the mainland of Singapore. Yay :\ Another round of sea sickness...

Photobucket
Them, waving to us goodbye!~

Photobucket
Our second bumboat.

Photobucket
Them on their boat; Us on our boat xD

We reunited with them at the Changi Point Ferry Terminal :D And off we went home from there!! The first thing that I'm gonna do when I get home was to bath and sleep! :P

This Lyrids Adventure Camp was an memorable experience/time for me that spent with all my friends :) My wish did came true! I did go with a bigger group of friends this time round :P I totally enjoyed the trip and its activities. Another meteor seen. Mozzie bumps acquired... around twenty plus of them :\ But it was fun, fun, fun! A big thanks to the organizer, Moo. And a round of applause to everyone who survived it, especially all those mozzie bites :P Hope I can go to many, many other islands around Singapore! :D

Photobucket
Thanks to Joshua for this Pleiades constellation keychain :D
